Exciting news for families in Morecambe and Lunesdale! Three local schools—Torrisholme Community Primary School, Storth CofE School, and Burton Morewood CofE Primary School—are among the first to benefit from a new government initiative offering free breakfast clubs. This programme is set to transform mornings for many families, providing not only a nutritious start to the day for children but also offering parents the flexibility of 30 minutes of free childcare.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader Plan for Change, aiming to level the playing field for families across the nation. Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson emphasised the importance of these breakfast clubs, highlighting their role in ensuring children start their day ready to learn, with full tummies and eager minds. This early adopter phase includes 750 schools, setting the stage for a nationwide rollout later this year.
The introduction of these breakfast clubs is a significant step forward for local families, as it supports parents in balancing work commitments by allowing earlier school drop-offs. Morecambe and Lunesdale MP, Lizzi Collinge, expressed her enthusiasm, noting the positive impact on both parents’ work opportunities and children’s future prospects.
The selected schools will receive funding to cover food and staffing costs, ensuring that the programme is sustainable and effective. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance educational opportunities and readiness for children across England, with breakfast clubs playing a crucial role in this vision.
