Creative Playgroup Sparks Imagination in Morecambe

Share article

Discover the joy of creativity with Everyday Play, a delightful series of free, creative playgroups for under 5s and their grown-ups in Morecambe. Run by the talented artist, researcher, and mum, Ellie Barrett, these sessions are a celebration of the inventive, imaginative, and resourceful ways young children engage with the world around them. Ellie believes that adults and artists alike can learn a great deal from the playful creativity of children.

Everyday Play sessions are all about collaboration and exploration, using everyday objects to create costumes, dens, toys, games, and sculptures. These sessions are not just about play; they are about fostering a sense of community and creativity among participants. The sessions take place at Good Things Collective, located at 3 Northumberland Street, Morecambe, LA4 4AU, on Tuesdays at 10am. Upcoming dates include February 25th, March 4th, and March 11th. Best of all, these sessions are free, and there’s no need to book—just come along and join in the fun!

This initiative is part of a broader research project exploring the significance of making sculptures together as a community. Some of the creations from the playgroup will be showcased in an exhibition at The Storey in Lancaster from 2nd to 11th May. The exhibition will feature artists from across the UK, all exploring different approaches to collaborative art-making. The project aims to make sculpture and visual art more accessible to everyone.

Supported by Good Things Collective and Arts Council England, Everyday Play is a wonderful opportunity for families in Morecambe to engage with art in a meaningful way. For more information, feel free to contact Ellie at ellie@goodthingscollective.co.uk.
